Notes from Nowhere

Ironic Photo of the Day

Came across this photo op on a hike down Harshaw Road here in Patagonia. The runner-up is below.

Thanks to my friends Cliff and Linda, I’ve lucked into a pretty awesome spot to wait out part (or all?) of the winter. It’s a horse property that until recently was a horse boarding and training facility. (Horses!!) I’ll be relocating to one of four RV hook-ups tomorrow and will stay until I receive the call to return to Mesa for what will be the conclusion of my long and winding insistence that my AC work as close to the manufacturer’s marketing claims as possible.

I’ve been pretty much heads down working on my Cave Creek Movie update. I have a cut that I like. It may, in fact, be 99% final. To get here, I had to get past my intense discomfort at seeing myself on video (yes, goes for photos too) and in making myself the anchor of the story. It is, after all, my story, or so I’ve managed to convince myself.

Let me know in comments or via email if you’re interested in providing feedback on the cut. I’d be grateful for any/all *honest* reactions whether good, bad or indifferent.

Quick note on my latest lesson learned in RVing: include the ground in your field of vision when backing into your spot. I thought I was doing so well backing into my current site until I managed to clip the hose bibb. A five or six foot gusher of water ensued. I managed to contact the owner of the park – who was vacationing in Mexico – and, with the help of one of the few tenants on the grounds when the incident occurred, managed to get the water turned off at the main. Which was great, for a moment. Then I woke up to the fact that I’d just turned off water to the entire park.

Busted bibb

Long-ish story short, my buddy Cliff, a landscaper and arborist who deals with PVC pipe and water connections nearly every day, came to the rescue. He had all the components necessary to expertly repair the damage before most of the other residents returned home from work. (Nearly everyone here is a long-timer working on various projects in and around Patagonia and so gone all day. A blessing under the circumstances.)

This probably was not part of RV 101, but should be. It’s not likely to happen again. It’s easy to forget the other hook up problem….forgetting to unhook from hose connections before taking off. Too bad you were so distracted you didn’t capture a video of the water gushing.

Never even considered failure to unhook. I will now! I do walk the circumference a couple of times – at least – before pulling out.
