I’m watching a lot of YouTube and Amazon Prime and I wanted to share a couple of David Letterman-related videos.
First, it turns out that Dave invented the Pandemic interview all the way back in the early 80s. Holy shit, right? Check this for a nearly 40-year sneak peek at late-night, Covid-style…
Also, I’ve been binging Siskel & Ebert on Letterman through the years. Dave was especially fun to watch when he had genuine affection for a particular guest and that was certainly the case here, times two. The rapport between all three was comfortable and easy from the start, and just continues to build over time.
There’s not a klunker appearance in the bunch. There are so many of them that they’re presented in six parts. This is Part 1. I highly recommend watching the whole series. It’s not only an extended, light-hearted Covid time-killer, it’s also fun to revisit all the films that are examined, mentioned and referred to.
It’s sad that both Roger and Gene are gone, but these appearances are a fitting tribute to one of the great show-biz marriages of all time, as well as to Letterman at his best.
